What is a Module?
Modules are collections of Courses, Resources, and Check-ins that help learners master specific topics or achieve clear learning objectives. They're particularly useful when you need to routinely assign multiple courses together.
Modules work well for various training needs, including role-based training, product knowledge, compliance, and more.
💡 Instead of assigning five separate new hire training courses individually, you can bundle them into a New Hire Module and assign it as a complete package.
Creating and Setting Up a Module
Start Your Module
In the Opus dashboard's left menu, go to Modules.
Click + New Module to open the Builder.
Choose how to begin:
Start from scratch – Create an empty module.
Convert an Articulate 360 Rise file – Import existing training content.
Use AI Builder – Have Opus draft a module based on your input.
Optional: Use the AI Builder
Upload files like handbooks, role guides, or SOPs, or write a prompt specifying your key topics, target roles, and training goals.
Review the AI-generated outline, adjust as needed, and expand each course or check-in.
Generate your module when it's ready.
Add and Organize Content
From the left-hand side, add Courses, Resources, and Check-ins from your Library—or create new ones with Add Content > Add New.
Group content into Sections (by topic, day, or phase) and drag items to set the order.
Set Module Settings
From the right-hand side, configure:
Due date (specific date or number of days after assignment)
Complete in order (enforce step-by-step or allow free navigation)
Passing grades (choose the grade needed to pass the module)
Use Builder Tools for Efficiency
Click the module title to edit the name and description.
Switch between Build, Manage, and Reporting.
Use keyboard shortcuts (Cmd/Ctrl+C/V/Z) or Undo/Redo arrows.
Review translations in 100+ languages.
Use the three-dot menu to edit settings, export PDF, duplicate, or archive.
Publish and Assign
When your content, sections, and settings are ready, publish the module and assign it to learners.
Tip: For AI-built modules, double-check objectives, assessments, and company policy wording before publishing.
Module Sections
Sections divide your module into meaningful parts, like topics (e.g., company values, guest experience, uniform policy) or training days (especially useful for new hires). You can also control when the next section unlocks.
Completion Rules
Set the order in which learners must complete the module by going to the Manage tab and clicking Settings. Choose whether learners complete the module:
Step-by-step (one course at a time), or
By section.
Module Permissions
Admins, Managers, and users with the Create Content permission can build and edit modules.
Admins have access to all content and can add any Course, Resource, or Check-in.
Managers only see content they create or that is shared with their location.
Exporting a PDF of a Module
To export a module as a PDF:
Click the three dots next to the Assign button.
Select Export PDF.
A new window will open where you can download the PDF to your computer.
PDF settings are controlled locally on your device.
AI Module Builder
AI Assist in Opus accelerates module creation by generating outlines and suggesting courses based on your input. Simply provide a clear learning goal and relevant context (like handbooks or role guides), and the AI will create a structured module outline for you to review and customize.

Module Statuses
You can see a module’s status in the Modules list (Status column) and in the top-left of the module page.
Draft
A module that has never been published. Fully editable, but not assignable yet.
Published
A module that’s ready for learners. It can be assigned and will appear to assignees as the current version.
Note: If any included Courses have their own publish requirements, the builder will prompt you to complete those before publishing the module.
Unpublished Changes
A previously published module with edits that haven’t been re-published. Current assignees still see the last published version until you publish again to push updates.
FAQ
Can I edit a module after assigning it?
Yes. You can update courses, resources, check-ins, and sections at any time. Changes will apply to future assignments but won’t retroactively update progress for learners already in progress.
What if the AI generates too many or too few courses?
Use the outline editor to adjust course and check-in counts before adding details. If it’s way off, refine your prompt for better focus.
Can I reuse the same course in multiple modules?
Absolutely. A single course can live in multiple modules, so you can mix and match training content without having to duplicate it.
Who can see or edit my modules?
That depends on your role and permissions. Admins can access all modules, while Managers can only see or edit content they created or that’s been shared with their location.
