While Opus is designed for users to access training on their personal smartphones, some customers prefer using a store device for training and task completion.
This approach ensures that training happens on-site during work hours and supports compliance alongside the clock-in feature. For easy login, use a store-specific email address and a simple password. Many customers also create a dedicated role, such as "iPad" or "Shared Restaurant Login", to keep this account separate from individual trainee users.
⚠️ A shared store profile limits the ability to track individual training progress or task completion. If monitoring individual performance matters to your team, we recommend that each team member use their own account whenever possible.
How to Create a Store Profile
When setting up your store device as a separate user profile, you can choose between two options: Trainee or Manager/Admin. Trainee profiles have limited access and can only use the Opus Training app. Manager and Admin profiles have more permissions but require an email address for signup. Learn more about how permissions work in Opus here.
Option 1: Trainee User Type (recommended)
This option is simple and works even if your store phone number is a landline.
From your dashboard or app, get your location's invite link or QR code.
Just below the QR code, you'll see the Copy URL option. Use this to send it in an email or text message.
Learn how to get the link here.
Open the link on your store device. If using the QR code option, you'll be directed to the sign-up page automatically.
Complete the sign-up form:
Choose your preferred language
Enter a name (e.g., "Store Tablet")
Tap "Don't have a phone? Use an email instead" to set up with email + password
Download the Opus Training app from the App Store or Google Play when prompted.
Log in with the email and password you just created.
Option 2: Manager/Admin User Type
Go to your Opus dashboard.
Click the + New button in the top left corner and select Invite Users from the dropdown.
In the modal, choose Manager as the user type.
Fill in the required contact information.
Email address is required.
Phone number is optional but recommended for easier login verification.
Assign one or more locations to this user.
(Optional) Assign a role for this profile (e.g., “Shared Restaurant Login”).
Click Invite.
Download the Opus Training app from the App Store or Google Play to your device
Once invited, use the email address you set up to log in on your store device.
Best Practices
Use a shared store email that can be accessed from your store device
Create a simple password everyone can remember
Create a dedicated role (e.g., “Store Device” or “Shared Login”)
Customize permissions for this profile. Learn more about permissions in Opus here.
FAQ
Do I need a phone number to create a store profile?
No. If you have a store phone number that can receive SMS and everyone using the device can access it, phone number sign-up is recommended. Otherwise, signing up with a shared email and password is the easiest and most reliable option.
Is the Manager user type recommended?
Not necessarily. If the goal is to have multiple team members use the same device, creating the profile as a Trainee is usually the better choice — it mirrors what team members see in the app and keeps things simple. A Manager user type can still work if you want this profile to have broader access or visibility into reporting, but most shared store profiles don’t need that level of access.
Can I restrict what trainees see on the store device?
Yes. By creating a specific role for store devices, adding specific locations, and customizing permissions, you can restrict what they can access.
Can multiple people use the same store profile?
Yes, store profiles are designed for shared logins on a single device.
