How to Draft Training with Opus Agents

Learn how an Opus Agent drafts training from your description, so you can review and publish it yourself.

Starting training from a blank page takes time. An agent can build the first draft for you from a description, your own files, or content already in your Library. You review the draft and decide when to publish it.

If you're an Admin, open Primary Agent or any agent from the Agents section of the left navigation and describe what you need.

Table of Contents:

What Agents Can Draft

Agents can draft most types of training in Opus:

  • Courses, including text screens and quiz questions

  • Modules, with new or existing Courses, Check-ins, and Resources. Checklists and Audits can't go in a Module.

  • Check-ins

  • Checklists

  • Audits, with a pass mark or Audit Grades

  • Opus Docs

  • Paths, which assign Modules in order after a team member completes a starting Module

Agents don't create Resources from uploaded files. To keep a full SOP or policy as reference material, ask for an Opus Doc.

Agents reuse pictures from files you attach. They can't create new pictures, and they add videos only when you provide them.

Drafts are translated automatically, like any other content in Opus.

How to Start a Draft

You can start a draft in a chat with an agent, or from a Create with AI dialog when you add new content.

Chat with an Agent

Ask for a draft in plain language, right in the chat. The more detail you give, the closer the first draft will be to what you need. Follow these steps:

  1. Open an agent, like the Content Author template, or Primary Agent from Agents in the left navigation.

  2. Describe the training: who it's for, the goal, the key topics, and the type of content you want. Attach your source files if you have them.

  3. Click Send. If the agent needs more detail, like whether you have source material, it asks a few questions. Click an answer for each one, then click Continue.

  4. For a new Course, Module, or Path, the agent shows a plan first. Review it, then click Approve & build, or reply with what to change. A single Check-in, Checklist, or Audit skips the plan.

  5. When it's done, the agent shares a link to the draft.

🎯 Example: "Create a 10-screen Course for new cashiers on handling cash refunds, with 3 quiz questions at the end."

Use a Create with AI Dialog

When you add new content, you can describe it and let Opus build it in the builder. Follow these steps:

  1. Start new content the usual way: from the New menu at the top of the left navigation, the new content button on a Library page (like New Course), or New Check-in, New Checklist, or New Audit on the Check-ins, Checklists, and Audits pages.

  2. In the dialog, like Create course with AI, describe your training goals, topics, and Roles. To build from your own material, click Attach to add files or Library items.

  3. Click Start building. Opus creates an empty draft and opens it, and the Primary Agent starts a new chat beside it. It asks any questions and shows a plan when it needs one, then builds the draft from your description and attachments.

There's a dialog for each type: Create course with AI, Create module with AI, Create checklist with AI, Create check-in with AI, and Create audit with AI. To start with an empty draft instead, click the from-scratch button, like New course from scratch.

Attach Files and Library Items

Attach your SOP, handbook, or slide deck, and the agent builds the draft from it. In the message box:

  • Click Attach, then Upload files to add files from your computer.

  • Click Attach, then search or browse your Library to add Courses, Modules, Check-ins, Checklists, or Resources.

  • Drag files onto the message box.

You can attach up to 10 items per message. Supported files are PDF, Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), Excel (.xlsx), CSV, text, HTML, and PNG, JPG, or WebP images. Each file can be up to 50 MB or 200 pages. Save older Excel (.xls) files as .xlsx before you attach them.

You can attach the same way in a Create with AI dialog.

If the agent asks whether you have source material, pick the option to attach a file and click Continue. Choose your file, and the agent gets your answer and the file together.

Edit Existing Content

Agents can also change content you already have:

  • With the item open: while a Course, Module, or other content is open, the Primary Agent and your other agents know what you're viewing. Say "this course" and ask it to add screens, fix a quiz answer, or rewrite text.

  • With Course Editor: name the Course or paste its link. The Course Editor template confirms which screens it will change, changes only those, and leaves the rest as is. It can also work through reviewer comments left on screens.

Edits to a Course's screens go into its draft, so your team doesn't see them until you publish. Removing screens or answer options that already existed counts as deleting, so the agent asks first.

If you have the item open in its builder, the agent's edits show up there without reloading the page.

🎯 Example: With a Course open, ask the Primary Agent: "Add two quiz questions to the end of this course about when to change gloves."

Review and Publish the Draft

Drafts appear in your Library as unpublished drafts, and the agent shares a link to each one. Open the draft, check the content, quiz answers, and wording, then publish and assign it when it's ready.

Your team won't see it until you publish.

You can also ask the agent to publish or assign it. Before it does, the agent lists every difference between the draft and the published version, names the exact items and who they reach, and waits for your yes. If your request already approves publishing or assigning those exact items, it goes ahead.

💡 AI drafts are a starting point: Check facts, policy wording, and quiz answers before you publish.

Best Practices

Use these tips to get a better first draft:

  • Say who it's for and the goal: for example, "new servers in their first week" and "know the steps of service."

  • Attach your source instead of retyping it: attach your SOP, handbook, or slide deck, or pick an item from your Library.

  • Say the content type you want: a Course, Module, Check-in, Checklist, Audit, or Opus Doc. Otherwise the agent picks the format it thinks fits best, which might be several short Courses instead of one.

  • Ask for quiz questions explicitly: say how many you want and where they go.

  • Give a length: say how many screens a Course should have, or how many items a Checklist should have.

  • Ask for one draft per request: finish and review one draft before you start the next.

  • Revise instead of starting over: ask the agent to change a specific screen, like "Make screen 4 shorter," rather than rebuilding the whole draft.

  • Use Course Editor for existing content: to change something you already have, use the Course Editor template or open the item and ask the Primary Agent, so you don't end up with a second copy.

  • Set your AI rules once: add your brand rules to the AI Assist details on your Settings â€ș Brand page. Every agent follows them in every draft.

  • Review before you publish: check quiz answers, policy wording, and translations.

  • Publishing and assigning still need your yes: the agent builds drafts on its own, but it asks before your team sees anything, unless your request already approves it.

🎯 Example: Attach your allergen handbook and ask: "Using this handbook, build a Course for new line cooks on allergen safety. Keep it to about 12 screens, with 4 quiz questions."

FAQ

Will an agent publish or assign the training?

Only if you ask. Training an agent builds starts as a draft. Before it publishes or assigns anything, it names the exact items and who they reach, then waits for your yes, unless your request already approves those items.

Can I upload a file for the agent to turn into training?

Yes. Click Attach, then Upload files, or drag the file onto the message box. Learn more in Attach Files and Library Items.

Can an agent edit my existing Courses?

Yes, if you ask. Its edits go into the Course's draft, and it asks before it removes screens or answer options that already existed. Learn more in Edit Existing Content.

How long does a draft take?

Building a draft can take a few minutes. The chat stays open beside the page you're on, so you can keep working.

How is this different from AI Assist?

AI Assist helps you inside the content builder, for example by generating a new screen from your notes. Agents can build a whole draft from a chat, and look up and change content across your Library. Learn more: How to Build Training Using AI Assist: build and edit training with AI Assist.

Can I ask for a draft in voice mode?

No. Voice mode answers questions but doesn't create drafts. Type your request, or click the microphone to dictate it into the message box.
