This article will cover best practices for assigning due dates to content

Due Dates

Due Dates let you control when assignments need to be completed. They keep your team on track, give Trainees a clear target to work toward, and help you spot who's falling behind before it becomes a problem. You can set them by calendar date or by number of days — depending on whether timing is fixed or flexible.

Due Date Types

By Calendar Date

Calendar-based Due Dates are best for courses with a fixed end date. Any Trainee assigned the course after that date will show as Past Due until they complete it.

By Number of Days

Day-based Due Dates give Trainees a set number of days to complete an assignment from the day it's assigned. Use this option when the exact calendar date doesn't matter.

How to Add a Due Date

  1. Open the Course or Module.

  2. Under Settings, click Due Date.

  3. Select a date or a number of days.

Updating Due Dates

Due Date changes only apply to new assignees. To apply the update to Trainees who are already assigned the content, reassign it to them. This also activates any Due Date notifications.

FAQ

What's the difference between a calendar date and a number of days?

A calendar date sets one fixed deadline for everyone — useful for time-sensitive courses. A number of days gives each Trainee a personal window from when they were assigned — useful for onboarding or evergreen content.

What happens if a Trainee is assigned a course after the calendar due date has passed?

They'll show as Past Due immediately. They can still complete the course, and their status will update once they do.

Do Due Date changes apply to Trainees who are already assigned?

No. Changes only apply to new assignees. To update existing assignees, reassign the content to them.
