Before your team can take the Food Manager exam, you must appoint at least one internal proctor who can administer and oversee the exam on-site. Always Food Safe gives you the ability to apply to become an internal proctor at no additional cost.
Becoming an Internal Proctor
Choose an Admin or Manager on your team who can oversee the Food Manager exam in person. Find more about becoming an internal proctor on the Always Food Safe website.
Complete the internal proctor application on the Always Food Safe website. The application takes roughly 5 minutes to complete and there are no pre-requisites for becoming an internal proctor.
Applications are reviewed in 1-2 business days. They reply by email.
Once you're approved, accept the invite to create an account in the AFS portal.
In the AFS portal, complete the required course and exam, which cover how internal proctoring works through Always Food Safe.
Please note that the internal proctor exam contains 80 questions and will be graded with an additional 10 pilot questions that are for research purposes only.

Renewing Your Proctor Certification
Proctor certifications expiring within 30 days can be renewed directly in the Always Food Safe (AFS) portal — a Renew button will appear alongside the certificate, and selecting it deposits the same renewal course and exam into the proctor's account. A notification is sent automatically when renewal becomes available.
