In order for your employees to take the Food Manager exam, you must appoint at least one internal proctor that can administer and oversee the exam on-site. To facilitate this process, Always Food Safe gives you the ability to apply to become an internal proctor at no additional cost.

Becoming an Internal Proctor

To become an internal proctor, customers must identify an admin or manager(s) on their team who can oversee the Food Manager exam in-person. More information on becoming an internal proctor can be found on the Always Food Safe website.

  1. Go to this link to complete the application. The application takes roughly 5 minutes to complete and there are no pre-requisites for becoming an internal proctor.

  2. Applications are reviewed in 1-2 business days. The applicant will receive a response via email.

  3. Once you've been approved as an internal proctor, you'll be invited to create an account in the AFS portal.

  4. Once you're in the AFS portal, complete the required course and exam to understand the in's and out's of the internal proctoring process through Always Food Safe.

    1. Please note that the internal proctor exam contains 80 questions and will be graded with an additional 10 pilot questions that are for research purposes only.
