Once Opus MCP is connected, the hardest part is knowing what to ask. This guide gives you ready-to-use prompts for the things Admins and Managers do most, from checking who's behind on training to drafting a new Course. Copy a prompt, swap in your own Locations, Roles, and training, and go.

How to Write a Good Prompt
The more specific your prompt, the better the answer. Think of it like asking a colleague for help: say who and what you mean, and what you want back. Keep these tips in mind:
Name the who and where: a Location, Role, Region, or person.
Name the training: the Course or Module you mean, by its title.
Say what you want back: a list, a count, a table by Location, or a short summary.
Say whether you want a lookup or a change: "Show me…" looks things up. "Create…" or "Invite…" makes a change.
Keep new training as a draft: add "Leave it as a draft" so you can review it before your team sees it.
Check Training Progress
See who's on track, who's behind, and where to follow up.
🎯 Try asking:
"Who is past due on training at the Downtown Location?"
"Which Locations have the lowest completion on New Hire Onboarding?"
"Show me every Team Lead who hasn't finished Customer Service Basics, grouped by Location."
"How is completion for Safety Essentials trending this month compared to last month?"
"List everyone hired in the last 30 days and what training they still have left."
Find and Understand Your Content
Get a quick picture of what's in your Library and what's inside it.
🎯 Try asking:
"What Courses do we have about customer service?"
"What's inside the New Hire Onboarding Module?"
"Which Courses are still drafts?"
"List every Checklist and which Locations complete it."
Answer Questions From Your Library
Ask a question the way your team would, and get an answer from your own training, with links to the sources it used.
🎯 Try asking:
"What does our training say about handling a customer complaint?"
"Where do we explain the opening procedures, and what are the steps?"
"Do any of our Courses cover workplace safety? Summarize what they say."
Spot Trends and Dig Deeper
Admins can ask for custom analysis across your Opus data, like comparing groups or finding patterns. The assistant can only look things up here, not change anything.
🎯 Try asking:
"Compare average completion time for New Hire Onboarding across Regions."
"Which quiz questions in Customer Service Basics are missed most often?"
"Break down past-due training by Role and Location in a table."
"Who completed Safety Essentials in their first week, and who took longer than a month?"
Draft New Training
Describe the training you need, and the assistant builds a draft Course, Module, Check-in, Checklist, or Opus Doc for you to review. This needs write access when you connect.
🎯 Try asking:
"Create a 10-screen Course for new hires on greeting customers, with 3 quiz questions at the end. Leave it as a draft."
"Turn our store closing steps into a Checklist. Leave it as a draft."
"Build a Module for new Team Leads using our existing leadership Courses. Leave it as a draft."
"Write an Opus Doc that explains our return policy in plain language."
💡 Review before you publish. New training always stays a draft. Open it in the dashboard, check the content and quiz answers, then publish it yourself.
Manage Your Team
Make everyday changes without clicking through the dashboard. These need write access, and the assistant confirms before high-impact changes like assigning training.
🎯 Try asking:
"Invite Maya Chen as a Manager at Midtown in the Team Lead Role."
"Create a new Location called Uptown in the West Region."
"Assign Safety Essentials to everyone at the Downtown Location, due in two weeks."
Review What Changed
Keep track of what the assistant did on your behalf.
🎯 Try asking:
"What did you change today?"
"List the drafts you created this week."
"Which people did you invite, and to which Locations?"
FAQ
Here are answers to common questions about using these prompts.
Do I need to use these prompts exactly?
No. They're starting points. Swap in your own names and training, or ask in your own words.
Can the assistant see more than I can?
No. It only sees what you can see in Opus, and it can only do what you can already do.
Why did the assistant say it can't make changes?
Your connection may be set to read-only. To draft training or invite people, reconnect and allow write access. Learn more in Getting Started: Opus MCP.
Can Managers use these prompts?
Yes. Managers can use these prompts, but the answers depend on their permissions in the Opus dashboard and on their scope, like the Locations and team members they manage. If a prompt asks about something outside their access, the assistant can only answer with what they can see. Some prompts, like custom analysis across your whole business, work best for Admins.
