đď¸ Launching November 11: This article covers features launching on November 11. Admins can opt in early.
Choose who can post and start conversations, and keep Newsfeed and Messages respectful with reporting and Admin review.
â Before you start: Changing permissions needs the Change Org Settings permission. Reported Content is available to Admins.
Table of Contents:
Who Can Post and Message
Two permissions decide who can start something new:
Send Posts: send Newsfeed posts. Admins have it by default. Managers and Trainees don't.
Start Messages: start Direct and Group Messages. Admins and Managers have it by default. Trainees don't.
Replying in a conversation, commenting, and reacting don't need either permission. Managers and Trainees can only message team members who share a Location with them.
Learn more about who each Role can post to in How to Post on Newsfeed.
Change Permissions
Each permission has its own card under Org Permissions: Send Posts in Newsfeed's Preferences, and Start Messages in Messages' Preferences. On a card, you can turn the permission on for Admins, for whole Manager and Trainee Roles, or for one team member at a time.
Go to Newsfeed > Preferences for Send Posts, or Messages > Preferences for Start Messages.
Under Org Permissions, use the Admins, Managers, and Trainees rows to choose which Admins and which Roles have it.
To turn it on or off for one team member, click Edit at the bottom of the card, find them, and change their setting.
When you turn a permission on or off for one team member, that choice applies to them even if their Role says otherwise. The bottom of each card shows how many team members have the permission.
What Admins Can See and Do
Admins look after Newsfeed and Messages for your whole business, so they can see and manage more than other team members:
Group Messages: Admins can open every Group Message in your business, including ones they aren't in.
Direct Messages: Admins don't see Direct Messages they aren't in on the Messages page. Every message, including Direct Messages, is still available to your Admins through the Opus MCP or an export from support@opus.so.
Group settings: Admins can change any group's owners and member permissions, and delete any group.
Posts: Admins can edit or delete any post.
No one can delete another team member's message or comment. Report it instead, and it's hidden right away.
Report and Review Content
Any team member can report a message or a comment:
Open the menu on a message and select Report message, or on a comment and select Report comment.
Add a note if you like, then click Report.
The message or comment is hidden from everyone except Admins, who see "This message was reported and only admins can see it."
To review reports, Admins go to Newsfeed > Reported Content and select an item. It shows who reported it, their note, and where it was sent. Click Restore to make it visible again.
How Group Messages Stay Up to Date
Opus keeps the members and owners of each Group Message current as your team changes, so you don't have to:
Locations and Roles: when a group includes a whole Location or Role, anyone who joins that Location or Role is added to the group, and anyone who leaves it is removed.
Deactivated team members: they stop getting notifications. If one was a group's last active owner, Opus makes a Manager in the group its owner, or an Admin if there's no Manager, or a Trainee if there's neither.

Can posts be reported?
No. Comments on posts can be reported. Admins can delete any post.
Can Trainees post or start conversations?
Yes, if you turn on Send Posts or Start Messages for their Role or for them.
