How Late Checklist Submissions Work

Learn how the late window lets your team submit a scheduled Checklist after its window ends, so you can tell late work apart from missed work.

🗓️ Launching November 11: This article covers features launching on November 11. Admins can opt in early.

A late window gives your team extra time after a scheduled window ends. A Checklist submitted during the late window still counts for that window, marked late, so you can see the difference between work done late and work that never happened.

✅ Before you start: The late window works on published Checklists that have a Schedule. Set it in the dashboard.

Table of Contents:

Set the Late Window

New Checklists start with No late submissions, so set a late window on any Checklist that should accept late submissions. To change it:

  1. Go to Operations > Checklists and open the Checklist.

  2. In Settings, find Late window and click it.

  3. Select the time option and enter the hours (h) and minutes (min), or select No late submissions.

  4. Click Save.

The change applies right away, with no need to publish the Checklist again. A late window can be up to 24 hours, and it always ends when the next window starts.

💡 Tip: Match the late window to how the work happens. A 30-minute window suits a quick opening check, while a few hours suits an end-of-day walkthrough.

How Each Window Is Marked

Every scheduled window moves through these statuses:

  • Upcoming: the window hasn't started yet.

  • To do: the window is open.

  • Past due: the window has ended, nothing has been submitted, and the late window is still open.

  • Submitted: submitted during the window.

  • Late: submitted during the late window.

  • Missed: nothing was submitted before the late window closed.

Once the late window closes, the timeslot can't be submitted anymore. Your team sees Submissions are no longer accepted for this timeslot.

What Your Team Sees in the App

In the Opus Training app, a past due Checklist stays on Home and in Tasks under the Checklists that are due now, marked Past due. Checklists are listed by deadline, and a past due Checklist's deadline is the end of its late window.

If someone opens a Checklist after its window ended, a Past due ¡ Closes in strip at the top of the form shows how long the late window has left. Once submitted, the window shows as Completed late.

See Late Submissions in Reporting

Open the Checklist's Reporting tab in the dashboard:

  • Schedule completion: each window shows its status. Hover over a cell to see how late it was submitted, or until what time a submission still counts, marked late.

  • Submissions: the Timing column shows On time or Late. Use the timing filter to show only one or the other. Off-schedule submissions show a dash.

The daily Checklist email also splits submissions into On time, Late, and Total, and a window shows as missed only after its late window closes.

FAQ

Does a late submission count as completed?

Yes. It counts toward the window as completed, marked late, so it's not counted as on time.

What happens if I shorten the late window?

The shorter window applies right away, including to windows that are past due now.

Can I turn off late submissions?

Yes. Select No late submissions in the Late window setting. Windows are then marked missed as soon as they end.

Can I set the late window in the app?

No. Set it in the dashboard on the Checklist's Settings.

What if a Location is added to a Schedule during the day?

It gets today's windows that are still in their late window, so the team there can still submit them late.
