Running training across many Locations means answering the same questions over and over: who's overdue, what new hires need, which quiz questions keep getting missed. Opus Agents take that work off your plate.
An agent is an AI assistant you chat with in the dashboard. Each one has standing instructions for one job, like onboarding new hires or keeping certifications current, so you don't have to explain the task every time. Ask a question in plain language, and the agent answers from your own Opus data.
Each agent can pull reports, look up team members and assignments, search your Library, read files you attach, and draft training and Paths for you to review.
If you're an Admin, your agents are already in the Agents section of the left navigation, right below Primary Agent. There's nothing to turn on.
Table of Contents:
Where to Find Agents
Agents are in the Agents section of the left navigation:
Primary Agent is always the first row.
Your business's agents are listed below it. Every Admin sees the same agents.
To add an agent, hover over the left navigation to expand it, then click + (New agent) next to Agents. The Agent gallery opens.
To edit or archive an agent, hover over it and click its … menu, or click the agent's name at the top of its chat.
Archived agents are under Archived (N) below the list. Click it to show or hide them.
Click an agent to open its chat in a panel that slides out beside the page you're on, so you can keep working. You can resize the panel, and click Close to hide it. Going to dashboard.opus.so/agents opens Home with your first agent's chat.

What an Agent Can Do
Each agent can:
Answer questions from your data: completion, overdue training, team members, Locations, Roles, and Checklist results.
Run reports: pull a report and explain what it shows.
Search your Library: find the Course, Module, or Resource that covers a topic, with links to the sources it used.
Read what you attach: files like PDFs, Word documents, and slide decks, plus items from your Library.
Draft training: create draft Courses, Modules, Check-ins, Checklists, Audits, and Opus Docs, and edit content you already have.
Work with Paths: explain what a Path does and who's on it, and build a draft Path for you to review.
Make files to download: ask for a spreadsheet or export, and the agent makes a CSV file you can download from the chat for 30 days.
Run on a schedule: do a recurring job at the time you pick, like a morning summary.
Every agent works as the Admin who's chatting with it, so it only sees what you can see and only does what you can do.
Every agent also follows the AI Assist details on your Settings › Brand page, like your business type, mission statement, and the rules AI should use when it writes content for you.

Agent Templates
A template is a ready-made agent with its instructions already written for a common job. Add one from the Agent gallery and edit its instructions to fit your business, or create an agent from scratch. The gallery groups its templates under People, Content, Operations, and Get more from Opus:

Compliance Auditor: Shows who's overdue on required training and certifications, by Location.
Recognition Finder: Finds team members and Locations worth a shoutout this week.
Content

Brand & Tone Editor: Captures your brand's voice in a short guide, then rewrites content to match it.
Course Editor: Edits existing Courses screen by screen, based on feedback or new information.
Library Organizer: Suggests Folders and Tags for your Library, finds content that isn't filed, and checks who can see and edit it.
Bulk Content Updater: Finds and updates every mention of a product, price, or policy across your Library when it changes.
Operations
Morning Brief: Sums up yesterday: missed Checklists, past-due training, new hires, and content changes.
Checklist Compliance: Shows which Locations completed opening, closing, and temperature logs on time.
Audit Follow-up Tracker: Lists failed Audit items by Location and the follow-up Tasks to fix them, until they're done.

Opus Optimization Expert: Finds the Opus features you're not using yet and shows you how to use them.
Each template also comes with suggested questions that appear in an empty chat, so you can start with one click.
Learn how to add one in How to Create and Manage Opus Agents.
Chatting with an Agent
Follow these steps:
Click an agent under Agents in the left navigation. Its chat opens in a panel beside the page you're on.
Type your question and click Send. In an empty chat, you can also click a suggested question to send it.
Review the answer and the source cards below it. Click a source to open it.
Most answers take less than a minute. Building a draft can take a few minutes.
Before a bigger build, the agent may ask a few questions with answers you can click, then show a plan for you to approve.
Each Admin has one ongoing, private chat with each agent, so you can pick up where you left off. Other Admins can use the same agents, but they can't see your chats.
To dictate instead of typing, click the microphone in the message box, speak, then click Stop and transcribe. Your words appear in the box so you can edit them before you send.
You can also choose the model, which is the AI engine that writes the answer. Open the model menu in the message box: Auto is a good default for most questions, and Power is more capable but takes longer. To pick a specific model, open Advanced.
💡 Be specific: Name the Location, Role, or time period you care about, and say whether you want an answer or a draft.
Attach Files and Library Items
Give an agent your own material to work from, like an SOP, a handbook, or a slide deck. In the message box:
Click Attach, then Upload files to add files from your computer.
Click Attach, then search or browse your Library to add Courses, Modules, Check-ins, Checklists, or Resources.
Drag files onto the message box.
You can attach up to 10 items per message. Supported files are PDF, Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), Excel (.xlsx), CSV, text, HTML, and PNG, JPG, or WebP images. Each file can be up to 50 MB or 200 pages. Save older Excel (.xls) files as .xlsx before you attach them.
Talk with Voice Mode
Click Voice mode in the message box to have a spoken conversation with the Primary Agent or any agent. The agent answers out loud, and each answer also appears in the chat.
Click Mute to pause your microphone and Unmute to turn it back on. Click End voice mode to hang up.
Voice mode ends on its own after 90 seconds of silence. Each conversation can last up to 15 minutes, and you can use up to 60 minutes of voice mode a day.
💡 Type or dictate requests that change things: In voice mode, agents answer questions but don't draft or change anything. A spoken yes doesn't count as approval.
Primary Agent
The Primary Agent is Ask Opus, the AI assistant built into Opus, and it's always first under Agents. For Admins in the dashboard, it can do everything an agent can, like looking up your Opus data, pulling reports, and drafting training, without any standing instructions.
Use the Primary Agent for one-off questions. Create an agent when you ask for the same kind of help again and again.
Unlike other agents, the Primary Agent keeps separate chats. Click Start new chat for a new topic, or click View chat history to pick up or rename an earlier chat.
When you have a Course, Module, or other content open, the Primary Agent and your other agents know what you're viewing. Say "this course" and ask it to explain, edit, or extend it.
For Managers and Trainees, and in the Opus Training app, Ask Opus answers questions from your Library. Admins and Managers also get answers from the Opus Help Center.

What Agents Can't Do
Agents can't:
Publish, assign, or delete anything without your yes. The agent names the exact items and who they reach, then waits for you, unless your request already approves those items.
Send messages or announcements to your team.
See information from outside Opus, like POS, payroll, or scheduling systems.
Create new pictures. They reuse pictures from files you attach, and add videos only when you provide them.
Work in the Opus Training app. Agents are available in the dashboard.
FAQ
Can Managers or Trainees use Opus Agents?
No. Opus Agents are available to Admins. Managers and Trainees keep using Ask Opus as before.
Do I need to turn on Opus Agents?
No. Every Admin already has agents, with nothing to set up. The Ask Opus setting in Settings controls Ask Opus in the Opus Training app, and for Managers and Trainees in the dashboard. It doesn't turn off agents for Admins.
How are Opus Agents different from Ask Opus?
For Managers and Trainees, Ask Opus answers questions from your Library, and Managers also get answers from the Opus Help Center. For Admins in the dashboard, Ask Opus is the Primary Agent and can also work with your Opus data, and an agent is the same help with standing instructions for one job, so you don't have to explain the task every time. Learn more: Ask Opus Overview: what Ask Opus answers for Managers and Trainees.
How are Opus Agents different from Opus MCP?
Opus MCP connects Opus to an assistant you already use, like Claude or ChatGPT. Agents work right in the Opus dashboard. Learn more: Getting Started: Opus MCP: connect Opus to Claude, ChatGPT, and other assistants.
Can an agent make changes without asking?
Only drafts, more changes of a kind you already approved, and changes your request already approves. An agent builds new drafts without asking, because your team can't see a draft until it's published. For a new Course, Module, or Path, it shows a plan first. For other changes, it asks before the first change of each kind, and it asks before it publishes, assigns, or deletes anything unless your request already approves those items. Learn more: What Opus Agents Can See and Change: what agents can access, change, and ask approval for.
Does Opus use my data to train other companies' models?
No. Learn more: How Opus Training Processes Your Company Data While Using AI: how Opus handles your data with AI.
